Summer in Sydney is looking up with fun-in-the-sun events now filling the calendar. Here are five local happenings to pop in the diary…
Tonic Lane is Popping Up at Sub Base Platypus
North Sydney’s Sub Base Platypus, with its waterside charm, is becoming quite the community recreation hub. To celebrate the start of summer, it’s set to host Tonic Lane’s ‘Teddy’ — an all Aussie Gin Bus that’s been the brainchild of Lain Tapsall since 2019. Teddy is a converted 1984 Toyota Coaster minibus that’s a roaming cafe by day and operates as a gin bus by night. The project is the second chapter of Tonic Lane’s story. Many may recall Tonic Lane began as a cafe in Neutral Bay centred on sustainability and waste reduction. It was the first cafe in Sydney to stand solo and ban single-use disposable coffee cups from 1 August 2017.
Tonic Lane’s ‘Teddy’ has the same mission and is fitted with a menu board and retro signage that’s been made using preloved vintage collectables from curb-sides and op-shops. If you love the idea of a mobile gin bus as much as we do, pop down to visit this pop up from 27 November.
Fridays: 4pm – 9pm; Saturday and Sunday: 1pm to 9pm.
