Sydney’s magnificent energy lends itself to some incredible events and this year, there are a few big-ticket items making their way back to the city’s calendar. Here are a few you may want to book the babysitter for…
Are you ready to meet the life of the party at Sydney Harbour from March through to April? Raise your glass and get ready to be swept away by the fluttering lashes of Violetta – she’s got both spirit and a heart of gold but can love change it all? You’ll experience both joy and heartache as you watch Opera Australia’s spectacular Harbourside production, La Traviata – a story that inspired Moulin Rouge. Fireworks will light up the sky for each performance. A giant chandelier will shimmer over the Harbour stage as you take in “a ravishing visual spectacle” (Huffington Post). You will also have the chance to enjoy drinks or dinner at one of the five pop-up bars and restaurants before taking to your seats.
When: 26 March to 25 April

IMAX-sized impressionist paintings will light up Moore Park as it hosts another blockbuster multi-sensory art exhibition. Monet and Friends – Life, Light and Colour is dedicated to the lush brushstrokes of Claude and co, the Impressionists who gave the world a true gift in their effervescent depictions of light, love and life. “Produced in the same immersive multi-sensory format as the hugely successful Van Gogh Alive, this very new and unique experience will captivate and enthral audiences young and old as we enjoy some of the colourful works of art from the French masters of the 19th century, combined with a wonderful musical score and special aromas permeating throughout the venue,” says Grande Experiences founder Bruce Peterson, according to Time Out.
