Are you keen to watch a film while the sun goes down and the stars come out from the iconic North Sydney Oval? Soon, you’ll be able to do just that – all thanks to this summer’s Sunset Cinema experience.
The latest season of the Sunset Cinema is set to delight with a bunch of fresh new releases, timeless classics and family favourites. So, whether you’re treating the kids, catching up with the girls or taking someone on a date to remember, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this summer.
The event will be screening from January 28th to April 3rd, with the gates open at 6.30pm Wednesday to Saturday.
What’s on the Sunset Cinema menu?
Embrace your inner superhero with the long-awaited blockbuster Wonder Woman 1984. Prepare to be totally enthralled by Eric Bana’s performance in the gripping Australian thriller The Dry and let your spirits be lifted by the inspirational story of Penguin Bloom.
Have your light sabres at the ready to re-live the original Star Wars saga across two weekends with A New Hope, the remastered 40th-anniversary edition of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
This season, Sunset Cinema will also be hosting a mini anime festival, with classics including studio Ghibli’s Howl’s Moving Castle, award-winning Spirited Away & Akira – with more to be announced soon.
Looking for a memorable Valentine’s experience? Whether you’re a true romantic or prefer something a little different there’s plenty to choose from, whilst soaking up the atmosphere, under the starlight with your favourite person.
A new program will be released each month. Check out the website for upcoming screenings.
Be safe, be comfortable
Treat yourself and snuggle up on the comfy bean lounges (free popcorn included!) in the Lawn lounge or pick up a Sunset chair and spread out your blankets with a picnic.
To ensure a safe event, a range of safety measures are implemented beginning with touch-free entry and Service NSW check in. With reduced capacity and larger seating areas, the hygiene marshals will direct patrons to physically distanced seating. The venue and amenities will be cleaned and sanitised before, during and after each screening including all seating.
Don’t forget about food!
You can grab meals at the nightly food truck serving up hot food. This year, to streamline your experience and minimise queuing you can now order from the online menu and get a notification when your food is ready for collection.
Enjoy the warm evening air with a refreshing pink gin and tonic from Manly Spirits, or a frothy cold one from a selection of delicious Bent Spoke Beers at the licensed bar.
Stock up on all your essential movie snacks like Serendipity choc-tops and fresh, hot popcorn.
This is what Aussie summer is all about!
