Local Greek cafe Laurel Leaf Bistro has just launched what is arguably the most exciting Monday night event in the area – their ‘Ouzaria’ – a night of Greek tapas, art and music…
The Laurel Leaf Bistro in McMahon’s Point is already well known by north shore locals for its Greek cuisine and support for local artists. But according to customers, there was one thing missing – they wanted to be able to dine out at night at their favourite local café. Now they can, and word is spreading fast.
Owner Anna Con has introduced ‘Ouzaria’, a Monday night offering of a European inspired Australian tapas menu where customers can relax with good food and wine surrounded by an evolving art collection.
“Think of ‘Ouzaria’ as a Greek tapas night, each Monday night with an Australian-Euro twist,” says Anna. “While our all day lunch and breakfast menu celebrates my Greek background, I wanted to go a little deeper and amplify flavours that resonate from my childhood.”
There’s an incredible array of flavours on the menu, celebrating Australian elements with a Greek twist. Seafood is a big part of Anna’s life, so she has chosen seared South Australian salmon with pistachio and caper berries, and seared tender Western Australian octopus to include on the evening menu.
There’s also succulent lamb souvlaki, with side dishes of oven roasted cauliflower with basil mash and zucchini spirals, and oven roasted beetroot in red wine and brown rice.
For those with gluten free requirements, the lobster lasagne with retsina comes with a choice of gluten free or traditional fresh pasta, and there’s a vegan gluten free chocolate fudge cake for dessert.
“We are a low fodmap, nutrition and well-being based cafe and restaurant, choosing the very best ingredients for every dish. We focus on combining elements that help you digest, with clean-eating top of mind when designing the menu. We’re interested in helping diners find the right food for their health, wherever they are on their food journey,” Anna says.
Every six weeks Laurel Leaf Bistro has a themed art exhibition, showcasing incredible, talented local artists. So diners are surrounded by captivating artwork, and can also enjoy the full experience with Greek music from Anna’s youth like Rebetika, Bouzoukia and Marinella to complete the experience.
Anna is grateful and inspired by locals who have supported their local offering.
“The menu tends to stay the same each Monday with the odd special. Locals who’ve fallen in love with the menu come back often for their favourites,” Anna said.
Bookings are essential, and Ouzaria is BYO.
