Welcome to our comprehensive guide of playgroups for children on the Lower North Shore. If you know of any other local playgroups, or have any amendments to the following information, please email northsydney@thelivingcollective.com.au

Please make contact with a playgroup prior to turning up – some have waitlists or require you to bring something along on the day. There are several ‘drop-in’ playgroups locally which you do not need to make contact with prior and these are listed below. Most playgroups run only during term time. Please check with your individual playgroup if they continue during holidays.

Explorer’s Playgroup

Description: “Provides creative play sessions for under 5s, spread across three light-filled rooms and a beautiful playground. Experienced play leaders set up a wide range of activities to suit the needs of children, with an emphasis on child-initiated play supervised by a parent or carer in a relaxed and friendly environment.”

Kirribilli Play Area

Description: “Children under the supervision of parents are welcome. We have a beautiful courtyard, as well as a toy shed and a turfed / covered fenced-in area for your children to utilize. This is a beautiful environment for children to safely play and socialize, while parents get to know one another. We ask that you make a donation of a gold coin to use this space.”

St Leonards Tafe Play Sessions

Description: Age: under 5 years. “Play Session for children and parents. Primary focus on enabling Childhood Education students to practice skills with children and their families, while offering an interesting program for children. Students are involved in the planning and organisation of each session, supervised by teachers who are early childhood professionals. Please email to check operating hours and days. Bookings recommended.”

Forsyth Park Playgroup

Description: Forsyth Park Playgroup is a committee-run playgroup, providing a fun environment for children aged 0-5 years old and their parents/carers to meet together regularly. The playgroup has a unique garden setting with a beautiful fully-enclosed playground and a huge range of quality toys and play equipment. The program includes a mix of structured and unstructured play, craft sessions, celebrations (e.g. Easter, Christmas), periodic music events, and social events. Relax and chat with a cup of tea. Please email before attending a session to arrange a visit.

Playtime by the Bridge

Description: Playtime by the Bridge is a playgroup for children aged 0-5 years and their parents or carers. It’s a place for you and your child to have fun and play! It’s also a chance to get out of the house, relax and enjoy a cup of coffee and a chat with other parents and carers. Activities at Playtime include toys, craft, singing, Bible stories and morning tea. During Playtime, each child’s parent or carer’s supervision is required at all times. Playtime costs $5 per family. Our children’s and youth volunteers have working with children’s checks and our ministries comply with Sydney Anglican Dioceses policies and Safe Ministry standards.

Cameragal Montessori Under 3s Program

Description:  Specifically for children under 36 months. It is a neat, orderly and intimate space that focuses on the development of movement and the refinement of language. It lays the foundation for life, as the first three years of life are the most fundamental for children and their potential. A parent/carer must attend with the child. It is recommended for the parents to observe, so the child can independently work through the activities.

Description: Meets on Tuesday 9:30am-11am during school terms. The morning starts with a half hour program that includes singing well known songs, nursery rhymes and Christian songs, playing instruments, movement, dancing and stories, including simple bible stories. This is followed by morning tea, simple craft and free play. Each term has a different theme for example colours, animals or transport.

St Aidan’s Junior Jivers

Les Petits Loups

Description: French speaking playgroup provides the opportunity for French speaking children and their carers to come together in a fun, safe and supportive way. Children interact and learn through play, while maintaining and enhancing their level of spoken French as well as an understanding of francophone cultures. Run entirely the members. A 2-hour session each week (during school term) on Thursdays from 10am to 12pm. Playgroup sessions are conducted in French and are structured around: play, art and craft, story-telling and singing. We also offer a French library. The accompanying parent/carer must be able / make a genuine effort to communicate in French.
