The Perfect Plate Awards are on now, and it’s the perfect excuse to visit your local club.

Forget the usual pub grub! Look out for “Perfect Plate” specials on your next visit to your local club or RSL. These dishes are chef-created contenders in a statewide competition, letting you taste the best dishes and vote for your favourites.

Matt Moran, one of the ambassadors of the Perfect Plate Awards, visited Norths in Cammeray, this week to try out their dish, an Asian-inspired Nasi Goreng.

“Norths Nasi Goreng is absolutely spot on! Nice fresh ingredients, great flavour, great balance, and great price,” said Matt.

No stranger to fine food, Matt Moran isn’t a stranger to the North Shore either. Matt’s food career started at the age of 15 as an apprentice at La Belle Helene restaurant in Roseville, where he discovered the art of classical French cooking. He went on to open his first restaurant at 22 before expanding his stable to include Aria, Opera Bar, Chiswick, North Bondi Fish, Chophouse and more recently The Rockley Pub near his farm in the Central Tablelands.

The Norths Collective, the group who own Norths Cammeray, are the biggest contributor to the ClubsNSW competition – so much so that they hosted the Perfect Plate Awards last year at Norths.

Locally, previous years’ winners have included The Greens in North Sydney for their Rangers Valley Eve Fillet and The Alcott in Lane Cove for their Sesame Grilled Lamb Rump. The Alcott will again be vying to win this year for their Grilled Harissa Chicken ($28) with decadent harissa and anchovy butter, caramelised baby onion, fresh watercress & crunchy croutons served on a roasted almond and golden raisin salad.

And The Greens have two dishes in the running – a Slow Braised Hunter Valley Beef Short-Rib with Sweet Potato and Green Pea Puree, Roast Onion and BBQ Jus ($28). And a Biscoff Dessert Taco with Velvety Vanilla Cheesecake, Apple Crumble, Chocolate Shards and Biscoff Drizzle ($14).

Head into your local club to try their perfect plates, vote for who you think should win, and you can also go into the draw to win a share of prizes including a ‘Foodie Getaway’ for two worth up to $3,500!

The Perfect Plate Competition is open now until June 16.
