It’s the news local parents and kids have been waiting for… Wadanggari Park at St Leonards is officially open on Friday Sept 15 and it looks amazing!!!

Lane Cove Council was kind enough to unveil the exciting first stage of Wadanggari Park in St Leonards in July with the first playground structure below. And it was huge news for little locals and their parents.

Now the second stage is complete with the amazing playground and surrounding leisure area ready for the community to enjoy!

According to Lane Cove Council there is 4750 square metres of open space including a grassed area, performance stage, end of trip bike facilities, picnic settings, plus more! 🌳🌿 In fact the whole area has been recently upgraded with the new library, retail and lots of great restaurants:

“Wadanggari Park easily connects to the brand new St Leonards Library, St Leonards station via the refurbished underpass, Coles, and specialty stores.”

Award-winning landscape architecture and urban design practice, Arcadia, are behind the project.  According to their website: “The design narrative is based on the Banksia, a quintessential Australian flower known to have been here for 60 million years, which is an important part of the Lane Cove area ecological communities. The Banksia has high significance in First Nations culture.”

There will also be something to suit all ages at Wadanggari Park according to Arcadia.

“The play space will include a pod climber for the pre-schoolers, a net tower for the primary school visitors and an art structure for teenagers and adults. Built on two exciting levels, the play will include steppers, infant pods, bridges, climbing nets, viewing decks, play logs and slide.”

The surrounding area sounds incredible too with a large timber boardwalk over a fern garden, Indigenous plantings, and a clever lighting concept.

To celebrate the opening, Lane Cove Council is holding a Community Open Day on Saturday 16 September from 10:00am.

“Celebrate the opening of Wadanggari Park with live music, face painting, giant games, hula hoop performers, gelato, coffee and more!

  • Coffee and gelato will be available from 10:00am while stocks last.
  • Face painting: 10:00am – 1:00pm
  • Hula Hooping: 10:00am – 1:00pm
  • Live music and dancing: 10:00am – 3:00pm
  • Giant garden games: 10:00am – 3:00pm

To mark the special occasion, St Leonards Library will also be open on the day from 9:30am.

Wadanggari Park is located at 568 Pacific Highway, St Leonards. It is opposite St Leonards train station and adjacent to the building at 88 Christie Street, St Leonards. Free parking for up to two hours is available in the public car park, entry via Lithgow Street and Christie Lane.”
