Do you know a local start-up business in North Sydney?
As part of Small Business Month, North Sydney Council is mapping start-ups in the area with the aim to help them connect and grow our ecosystem.
If you are a start-up, complete the survey and drop a pin on the online map. If you know a local start-up please encourage them to participate. The survey will be open until 20 December
The mapping tool will help build a database of the types of start-ups in the area, so Council and its partners can best support this sector. This is a priority activity in the North Sydney Smart City Strategy.
The survey builds upon a research project conducted by North Sydney Council and Regional Development Australia (RDA) Sydney into the North Sydney Start-up Ecosystem, which identified a diverse range of start-ups in the area.
Three incubators and a plethora of networks, investors, funding, coworking spaces, business support, and educational institutions are prominent players in North Sydney’s start-up ecosystem.
North Sydney Mayor Jilly Gibson, said that “North Sydney is fast becoming an extension of the city CBD and we are keen to support and leverage start-up innovation in our area, especially to assist the economy through and out the other side of COVID-19.”
“Alongside North Sydney CBD, start-ups are growing in St Leonards, a key health and education precinct. Council has been renewing and activating this precinct – it is a mixed-use centre, well serviced by public transport and has a vibrant restaurant and retail strip.”
Dr Robert Lang, Chair of RDA Sydney, stated that “Start-ups and the ecosystem they are part of have the potential to provide innovative solutions to market challenges, scale quickly and grow local jobs. As we adapt to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, start-ups will be more vital than ever.”
