North Sydney Produce Market new 2

The last few weeks has been full of business casualties in our community and one huge loss has been the fortnightly Northside Produce Market. But fear not, in a moment of great reinvention you’ll be able to still support the producers as the market has been taken online.

“Everybody is trying to hang in there at the moment and I thought we’d try and keep our wonderful stallholders going in this incredibly hard period with a virtual market,” says market co-ordinator Lisa MacDonald.

“Recently we had to make the difficult decision to cancel the markets for the foreseeable future. We run as a fundraiser for the North Sydney Community Centre and the committee felt that they couldn’t bear it on their conscience if anything happened at the Markets. But we were devastated for our stallholders, some of whom were instantly losing their livelihood”

The natural step to keep the market thriving is taking it online.  You can visit the market by clicking here and see which producers are involved and how they are getting their produce to you. New stallholders are being added every day, many of them banding together to share their delivery and logistical needs.

“We’re encouraging our stallholders and customers to keep the contact going by posting pictures of their produce and tagging us on our social media. And we’d love the North Sydney community to do the same so we can keep the market spirit alive. We’ve had an amazing reaction so far and hope we can enable the public and stallholders to keep connected for the foreseeable future,” says Lisa.

If you’re craving a fix of your favourite coffee from the Little Coffee Co or delicious seasonal fruit and veg from Grima Farm Fresh Produce or Banana Bar, shopping details are available through the website.

“We can’t wait for the day we can rejoin the community on a bustling sunny Saturday at Ted Mack Civic Park ,” says Lisa. “But in the meantime we will do everything we can to ensure that the Northside Produce Market stallholders are supported at their new online digs.”
